With British cinema experiencing a boom period currently, there is simply no better time to give your dream a shot.

If you want to become an actor, there are a number of classes, clubs and associations you can get involved in which will help you to develop your craft. Look up drama clubs in your local area, and if you would like additional training there are a large number of acting coaches around the UK who can give you intensive instruction. Many famous actors of today had their beginnings on stage – this is of course performed in front of a live audience and as such it trains actors to be resilient and recover in the face of adversity. If you can, start auditioning for parts in local productions.

If you’re more interested in the behind-the-camera activity, there are a number of colleges and universities who offer specialized directing, cinematography, production and design-based courses which will give you all the tools you need to become a true professional. There are also a number of funds within the UK who offer grants or prizes to new film-makers to encourage the growth of the industry, so it may also be worth investigating this avenue if you are keen and have your own equipment.
